The Canadian cinematic scene recently witnessed a remarkable event reflecting the growing presence of Egyptian talents on the international stage. Media personality and member of the media committee Nour Sobhy was selected as the first Egyptian woman to join the jury of the international festival Vues d’Afrique during its 42nd edition. She was also appointed as a cultural ambassador for promoting culture. The festival is considered one of the oldest and largest Francophone African film festivals in Canada, making this participation particularly significant on both cultural and artistic levels.
The festival is chaired by Canadian filmmaker Gérard Louvin, while Géraldine Le Chêne serves as the festival director, leading a professional organization that brings together prominent filmmakers and critics from around the world.
The jury panel included several distinguished cinematic figures, among them filmmaker, director, and critic Djimeli Lekpa Gervais, artist and film critic Amadou Ndaw BaniAdama, film critic Florette, as well as director and film critic Léo Denis Carpentier, reflecting the richness and diversity of expertise within the jury.
This participation marks an important milestone in Nour Sobhy’s professional journey, representing a valuable cinematic experience that highlights the strong presence and excellence of Egyptian talents in international film events, while also opening new doors for cultural and artistic collaboration between Egypt and Canada.
In this context, Nour Sobhy expressed her sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to developing her experience and refining her skills in film criticism. She extended special thanks to film critic and journalist Mohamed Abdelrahman, under whom she studied film criticism, as well as director Ehab Moustafa, in addition to Djimeli Lekpa Gervais and Léo Denis Carpentier, for the valuable knowledge, guidance, and intensive two-month training they provided, which played a major role in this remarkable achievement in her career.
